The study compares the environmental performance of a diesel, battery electric and hydrogen heavy duty truck throughout their entire life cycle. Life cycle assessment is used to quantify the environmental impacts of those vehicles considering their entire value chain, from cradle-to-grave. An approach to overcome the inaccessibility to industry-related data for performing advanced environmental analysis is proposed and a method to assess the climate change mitigation potential, for each of the three studied vehicles, is developed. The battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell trucks show great potential to support deep decarbonization of heavy road transport both locally and globally. Here you can find the article.
