Kari-Anne is the Director of NORSUS. She joined NORSUS as a researcher in 2008 and has since completed her PhD, advanced to senior researcher, and served as Head of Research before being appointed Director in 2026. She is committed to ensuring that NORSUS delivers high-quality research while also contributing to real impact in society. 

Kari-Anne holds a Master of Science in Product Development and Production from NTNU, with specialization in ecodesign. In 2018, she completed her PhD at NMBU. Her doctoral thesis was entitledReduction of environmental impacts through optimisation of biogas value chains. Drivers, barriers and policy development. 

Kari-Anne has worked on a wide range of research projects assessing the environmental impacts of products and services, including contributions to strategy development, product improvements, procurement, and policy design. Areas of professional interest include life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology, circular economy, waste resources, and biogas value chains. She is particularly interested in how life cycle assessments and sustainability analyses can be designed and communicated to decision-makers in ways that will lead to a more sustainable society. 

Kari-Anne has been part of the Technical Committee of EPD Norway. She is the Norwegian representative in IEA Task 37, Energy from Biogas, and serves as Chair of the Board of Avfallsforsk.
